The defense forces have significantly increased the range of their strikes against Russian forces
In May, the Ukrainian Defense Forces doubled the number of strikes against Russian targets located more than 50 kilometers from the front line. At the same time, the enemy suffered heavy casualties, while the effectiveness of Ukrainian attacks and air defense operations increased significantly.
In May, the Ukrainian Defense Forces significantly increased the intensity of strikes on Russian positions deep behind the front lines, and now such attacks at distances of over 50 kilometers are occurring twice as often as before. This was reported by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov as he summarized the performance of the “eBaly” system over the past month.
According to him, this is not just about statistics, but about real pressure on the enemy’s logistics and rear, which is changing the very dynamics of the war. “We are striking at what sustains the Russian offensive. The destruction of logistics, transport, and warehouses is forcing the enemy to spend resources on survival instead of advancing,” Fedorov noted.
Separately, the minister reported that in May, the Russian army lost or had 31,530 soldiers seriously wounded, and, according to him, these losses have been documented and confirmed by video. The strike zone is also expanding—Ukrainian forces are increasingly hitting targets within a range of 20–150 kilometers, and the number of enemy vehicles and motorcycles destroyed has reached record levels.
Another key achievement of the month was the performance of Ukrainian air defense against Shahed drones. Despite Russia launching over 10,000 attack drones—approximately 25% more than in April—the rate at which they were shot down increased by 50%. The Ministry of Defense attributes this, in particular, to the active use of interceptor drones, which have become one of the main tools for defending Ukrainian airspace.
At the same time, the front lines are being automated. Over the past month, Ukrainian units carried out over 14,000 logistics and evacuation missions using ground-based robotic systems. “At the same time, we continue to automate the front lines. Over the past month, our military has carried out more than 14,000 logistics and evacuation missions using robotic systems. That’s an average of 455 missions per day, during which robots—not people—performed dangerous work,” the minister added.
The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that such changes are gradually shaping a new model of warfare, where precision, technology, and remote targeting play a key role. This was reported by Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
In the southern sector, Russian troops have sharply intensified their offensive operations, deploying new and better-trained units to the Huliaipole area. Despite the failure of previous plans to seize territory, the occupiers are setting new deadlines and attempting to increase pressure on Ukrainian positions.
The occupiers attacked Kostiantynivka with incendiary munitions and unleashed a rain of phosphorus.
Russia attacked Kharkiv and the surrounding region overnight; there are casualties.
