A strong message from The Hague should force Putin to end the war — Dutch Prime Minister
To compel Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end his aggression against Ukraine, Europe must demonstrate unprecedented unity at all levels, particularly within the OSCE.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten made this statement during the 33rd annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, emphasizing that support for Kyiv remains a key factor in the security of the entire continent.
“It is extremely important to always remember that Ukraine is defending not only its territory and its citizens. It is defending peace and security on our continent. It is also defending the rules-based international order, including the OSCE and the commitments we have all undertaken,” Rob Jetten emphasized.
He added that the Netherlands will continue to strongly support Ukraine, as joint efforts to increase sanctions and political pressure on Moscow have already proven effective.
The head of the Dutch government called for consolidating efforts within international frameworks to send the Kremlin a clear signal that the continuation of hostilities is unacceptable.
In his view, only a united stance can change the Russian leadership’s calculations and steer the situation back toward diplomacy.
“We need European unity at all levels, including within the OSCE, to maximize pressure on Putin and force Russia to end this war. We must show Putin that the only way forward is an immediate ceasefire and participation in substantive negotiations on a just and lasting peace. I urge you to send this strong signal from The Hague to Moscow,” the politician said during his speech.
