A drone strike completely shut down the Syzran Oil Refinery

On the afternoon of July 12, 2026, FP-1 drones launched a devastating strike against the Syzran Oil Refinery in Russia. This attack proved to be even more effective than the strike on the Omsk Oil Refinery.

Analysis of photo and video footage confirmed hits on three key technological facilities at the plant—both primary oil refining units, without which the rest of the plant cannot operate, and the unit for producing high-octane fuel components:

  • AVT-5 (53.085610, 48.397238)—a primary refining unit with a capacity of 2.6 million metric tons of crude oil per year (30% of the plant’s total capacity).

  • AVT-6 (53.085023, 48.394442) — the main primary refining unit with a capacity of 6.3 million metric tons of crude oil per year (70% of the plant’s total capacity).

  • LCh-35/11-600 (53.084569, 48.390395) — a catalytic reforming unit for gasoline fractions, responsible for the production of high-octane fuel components.

The damage to the LCh-35/11-600 reforming unit occurred as a result of a drone accidentally striking a process pipe along its flight path. This caused the warhead to detonate in mid-air directly above the facility and subsequently ignite due to being heavily covered in debris.

The final result of the attack was the complete shutdown of the Syzran Refinery’s primary processing capacity, with a total annual throughput of 8.9 million metric tons of crude oil. In terms of the volume of refining capacity neutralized, this strike surpassed the previous record set by the disabling of the AVT-11 unit at the Omsk Oil Refinery (8.4 million metric tons per year).

Exilenova+ reports on this.

In the Samara Region of the Russian Federation, the Syzran Oil Refinery caught fire as a result of a drone attack. There were at least four strikes on the plant’s territory on the night of July 12; the primary oil processing unit, which accounts for 30% of the plant’s capacity, is on fire.

On the night of July 10, Ukrainian defense forces struck a number of strategic Russian military logistics facilities. The strikes hit 18 ships, the Ilsk Oil Refinery, oil terminals, and fuel depots.

As a reminder, the Omsk Oil Refinery—Russia’s largest refinery, owned by Gazprom Neft—completely halted oil processing following a drone attack on July 6.
