Russian propaganda is circulating a staged video to discredit the 119th Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces — Center for Public Diplomacy
Russian propaganda outlets are circulating a staged video about the 119th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in an attempt to discredit the Ukrainian military. The Center for Countering Disinformation identified signs of staging and technical manipulation of the audio track in the video.
In the video, “two commanders of the 119th Territorial Defense Brigade” discuss supply issues and “non-combat losses” within the unit.
- Analysis of the footage revealed signs of staging. The actors in the video carefully conceal their faces; their uniforms lack any insignia or chevrons; and the audio track shows clear signs of technical manipulation to alter the pitch of their voices. The video itself is being circulated through a network of Russian Telegram channels, which have repeatedly spread similar disinformation about the Ukrainian military.
- Russian propaganda regularly resorts to creating staged scenarios, particularly using artificial intelligence. In this way, the enemy attempts to mimic the “views of Ukrainian military personnel” and create a false illusion of chaos and division within the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The main goal of such hostile disinformation campaigns is to undermine Ukrainians’ trust in the Defense Forces and demoralize the personnel, according to the CPD.
Earlier, the CPD refuted a forecast of two-week lockdowns this winter.
Ukraine is already preparing its power grid for the upcoming heating season, which is forecast to be no less challenging than the previous one.
