Syrsky approved the development concept for the Ukrainian Armed Forces' artillery and missile forces through 2030
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi has approved the Concept for the Development of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Missile Forces and Artillery, which outlines the key directions for the development of these branches of the military through 2030.
According to Syrskyi, Ukraine must not only wage war today but also build the military of the future by developing new technologies and preparing for future challenges.
“While fighting a difficult war today, we must simultaneously build the military of the future. Developing capabilities, introducing new technologies, and preparing for future challenges are no less important than carrying out current combat missions. This is precisely what our strategic decisions are aimed at,” the Commander-in-Chief emphasized.
Missile forces and artillery are now present in virtually all components of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and artillery units carry out thousands of combat missions daily, inflicting significant losses on the enemy. Both modern Western weapon systems and Ukrainian developments play an important role in the development of this area.
Syrskyi emphasized that despite the development of new types of weapons, artillery remains one of the key elements of the modern battlefield.
“Some may think that the era of artillery is coming to an end, but the experience of this war proves the opposite. Artillery remains an integral element of the modern battlefield, and one of its key advantages is the ability to respond quickly to threats and changes in the situation,” he stated.
At the same time, Syrsky cited dependence on partners for the supply of weapons and ammunition, complex logistics due to the large number of different types of systems, the limited range of certain weapon models, and a shortage of artillery reconnaissance assets.
The concept calls for a gradual transition to domestic artillery systems, as well as the decommissioning of obsolete Soviet-era systems that cannot be modernized or repaired. At the same time, the military will retain units equipped with the most modern foreign artillery systems.
One of the priorities identified is the creation of a modern artillery reconnaissance system, as the effectiveness of artillery directly depends on the speed of obtaining and transmitting information about targets.
The concept places particular emphasis on the development of Ukraine’s missile capabilities.
“We must build up our capabilities to deliver firepower across the entire operational-strategic and strategic depth of the enemy. To this end, the plan calls for the completion of development and subsequent serial production of domestic ballistic and cruise missiles. Combined with unmanned systems, this will allow us to create a balanced long-range firepower system and ensure the destruction of targets at distances of up to 2,000 kilometers,” Syrskyi emphasized.
Ukraine also plans to ramp up production of its own ballistic and cruise missiles, which should enhance the Defense Forces’ capabilities to strike targets deep behind enemy lines.
According to the Commander-in-Chief, artillery will remain one of the key factors for success on the battlefield and an important element in deterring Russian aggression, regardless of weather conditions or terrain.
He announced this on Facebook.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi visited military command headquarters and units carrying out missions as part of the defensive operation in the Donetsk region.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian troops continue to steadfastly hold their defenses, destroy enemy forces, and strike at their positions in operational and strategic depth.
