The Ministry of Defense reported strikes on oil infrastructure around Moscow

On May 16–17, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a series of strikes on military targets in the Moscow region. These targets are responsible for supplying the Russian army and supporting its logistics. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that there are fewer and fewer places within Russia that can be considered out of reach of such strikes.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine provided further detailson the strikes.

The targets included the Angstrom semiconductor plant, the Moscow Oil Refinery, as well as the Solnechnogorsk and Volodarsk oil pumping stations.

Strikes on fuel infrastructure

In the Moscow region, the Solnechnogorskaya pumping station, which is part of the ring oil product pipeline system around Moscow, was struck. It is used to transport and store large volumes of gasoline and diesel fuel, including for the needs of Russian troops.

The Volodarskaya station, which handles the pumping, reception, and distribution of petroleum products, was also hit. It is a key component of the system of main petroleum product pipelines around Moscow.

It is known that a large-scale ring-shaped petroleum products pipeline over 400 kilometers long operates around the Russian capital. It transports gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel from several Russian refineries: the Moscow, Kstovo, and Ryazan refineries.

In addition to the Volodarskaya station, the system includes loading stations that refuel tanker trucks for the further transport of fuel. One such hub is the Solnechnogorskaya station.

Strikes on these facilities weaken Russia’s fuel logistics and military capabilities.

Angstrom Semiconductor Plant

Ukrainian defenders also struck the Angstrom plant in Zelenograd—one of the key enterprises producing microchips for the needs of Russia’s defense industry. It plays a vital role in the operation of Russia’s military-industrial complex.

“The results of the operation demonstrate: there is no longer a safe place in Russia that a Ukrainian drone cannot reach,” the Ministry of Defense emphasized.

On the morning of May 16, Moscow also came under attack by drones, causing airports in the Russian capital to temporarily suspend operations.

The “ATESH” partisan movement claimed responsibility for a sabotage operation in the Moscow region, which disrupted the functioning of elements of the Russian air defense system on the outskirts of the capital.
