A soldier in the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted to guide Russian missiles toward his own unit
A Russian “mole” was detained in the Kharkiv region; he had been operating within the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and attempted to direct a missile strike against his own repair battalion.
The SBU’s military counterintelligence, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, detained the spotter in a service vehicle just as he was leaving the military unit. The traitor turned out to be a mobilized serviceman who held the position of master electrician responsible for repairing unmanned aerial systems in a motorized infantry brigade.
The suspect provided his FSB handler with the exact coordinates of a Ukrainian repair battalion. To save his own life during the planned attack, he intended to leave the base in advance under the pretext of visiting a hospital. However, SBU officers exposed the agent in advance and took measures to secure the Ukrainian military’s locations.
Recruitment Scheme and Espionage
Russian intelligence services had been recruiting the man even before he was drafted into military service. To persuade the conscript to cooperate, the enemy used a relative of his who lives in Russia.
After joining the army, the agent—in addition to his regular duties—collected data for the enemy on the deployment locations of his unit and neighboring units. During searches, five smartphones were seized from the detainee, which he used in turn for encrypted communication with the Russian side.
SBU investigators have already notified the detainee that he is suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is currently being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property for the offense.

Earlier, the SBU’s counterintelligence unit detained a Russian military intelligence agent in the Donetsk region who was guiding guided aerial bombs and strike drones in the Sloviansk direction.
The Russian intelligence agent changed jobs at various enterprises in Dnipro to gather information for adjusting Russian strikes. Eventually, the man secured a position at a defense industry enterprise, where he drew up detailed diagrams of workshops and warehouses.
