Zelenskyy imposed sanctions on Russian telecommunications operators and internet service providers

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree enacting a decision by the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions against 10 Russian mobile operators, internet service providers, and telecommunications companies.

The new sanctions package includes entities that provide communications for Russian occupation administrations, internet access in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, and support the aggressor state’s information infrastructure.

The restrictions apply not only to mobile operators and internet service providers but also to satellite communications companies and enterprises that broadcast Russian television channels.

Among the sanctioned entities are “Luhansk Communications” and “Mobile Communication Systems, which Russia uses to spread propaganda and exert informational influence in the temporarily occupied territories.

Sanctions have also been imposed against the satellite and telecommunications operator “Amtel-Zvyazok, which serves Russian state entities, and the company “Cosmic Communications, which provides secure communication channels for the Russian military and government agencies.

Ukraine intends to provide its partners with full information on the sanctioned companies and to initiate the synchronization of restrictive measures at the international level. This will allow for increased pressure on entities that support Russia’s occupation activities.

“Any activity in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine is illegal. Companies that knowingly operate in the TOT and serve the occupying authorities become toxic to the international business and financial system. That is why Ukraine is imposing sanctions designed to make their activities impossible not only in the temporarily occupied territories but also anywhere outside Russia,” emphasized Vladyslav Vlasyuk, the President’s Special Advisor on Sanctions Policy.

The new sanctions are aimed at limiting Russia’s ability to support the occupation infrastructure, exert informational influence, and provide secure communications for its structures in the occupied Ukrainian territories.

This was reported by the press center of the Office of the President.

Prior to this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree imposing new sanctions against individuals and organizations linked to Russian propaganda and the persecution of Ukrainians. The restrictions apply to 29 individuals and 17 legal entities.
