ABC filed a lawsuit against the FCC under the First Amendment
The Disney-owned ABC television network has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in federal district court in Washington, D.C., according to CNBC.
ABC claims that the FCC’s recent investigation into the company is a retaliatory campaign in response to the network’s programming, which has been critical of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit was filed several months after the FCC initiated an early renewal process for a number of ABC television station licenses. The regulator explained this move by citing concerns about Disney’s practices regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
According to CNBC, the license review began shortly after renewed political criticism of ABC over comments made by TV host Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night show, which airs on ABC. In the lawsuit, the network is seeking to halt the early license renewal process. The FCC did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit.
