The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has notified Congress of its intention to allocate $400 million in aid to Ukraine by 2029. This timeline has already sparked discontent among U.S. lawmakers, who consider it too slow given the ongoing war.
According to the agency, in May, the U.S. Department of Defense sent a letter to Congress outlining a plan for the use of the allocated funds. However, two months later, a significant portion of the funding had still not been either allocated or contracted.
Reuters sources report that members of Congress have criticized this approach, as they consider it too slow given Ukraine’s needs during the war.
The document states that the funds will be used during fiscal year 2026, which ends on September 30; however, the final disbursement of the entire $400 million is scheduled for September 30, 2029.
Thus, the full amount of aid may not be provided until after the end of Donald Trump’s presidential term, which expires on January 20, 2029.
At this time, the U.S. administration has not released any official explanations regarding the reasons for this funding schedule.
