NATO announced it was coordinating with Poland following the crash of an X-101 missile
NATO is in close contact with Polish authorities following the incident involving a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile, which violated Polish airspace and crashed in the Lublin Voivodeship.
This was stated in a response from Martin O’Donnell, spokesperson for NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, to an inquiry from Wirtualna Polska.
According to him, in response to the airspace violation, the Alliance and Poland activated their air defense and ground defense systems.
Specifically, two Polish F-16 fighter jets, a NATO Airbus A330 refueling aircraft, a Polish Saab 340 AEW long-range early warning aircraft, and a Mi-24 helicopter were scrambled.
According to Wirtualna Polska, a telephone conversation also took place on Thursday between Alexus Grinkevich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, and Władysław Kukula, Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
The parties discussed the joint response by NATO and Poland to the incident, which is currently under investigation.
