In the Czech Republic, a Ukrainian man was sentenced to prison and deportation for the murder of a fellow Ukrainian
A court in the Czech Republic found a 33-year-old Ukrainian citizen guilty of murdering a 22-year-old fellow Ukrainian and sentenced him to 14 years in prison. After serving his sentence, the man will be deported from the country.
The tragedy occurred in late November 2025 in the Frýdek-Místek district of the Moravian-Silesian Region.
After the young Ukrainian woman stopped responding to calls, law enforcement issued a missing persons alert for her.
On December 3, the woman’s body was found in a stream near the village of Starzich. A forensic medical examination determined that the cause of death was strangulation, and the investigation concluded that she was the victim of an intentional violent crime.
The investigation was conducted by criminal investigators from the Moravian-Silesian Region. The very next day after the body was found, they arrested a 33-year-old Ukrainian citizen.
According to the investigation, the suspect invited the woman to meet under the pretext of repaying money he owed her from their previous work together. During the meeting, he strangled the victim and then hid her body in a body of water.
During the investigation, the man fully admitted his guilt. The court took his confession into account but found that the murder was premeditated and sentenced him to 14 years in prison.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the convicted man to be deported from the Czech Republic after serving his sentence and also required him to pay compensation to the victim’s family.
According to the Czech police, both the victim and the convicted man were legally residing in the Czech Republic. Law enforcement officials noted that the crime was solved quickly thanks to the evidence gathered, an analysis of the suspect’s movements, and his confession.
The case caused a widespread outcry among the Ukrainian community in the Czech Republic, as the victim had moved to the country after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. After all legal proceedings were completed, the woman’s body was handed over to her family for burial in Ukraine.
