Arab officials discuss possible premiership with Eisenkot’s circle — Jerusalem Post

Senior officials from several Arab states are discussing the situation ahead of Israel’s October 27 elections with people close to former Israel Defense Forces Chief of the General Staff Gadi Eisenkot. This was reported by the Jerusalem Post, citing two sources familiar with the discussions.

Possible premiership

According to the publication’s sources, the discussions are intended to prepare for the possibility that Eisenkot could become Israel’s next prime minister after the elections. Arab governments are monitoring Israel’s political situation and the possibility of forming a new governing coalition after the votes are counted.

Officials from several Arab countries seek to better understand Eisenkot’s political strategy and positions, particularly regarding Israel’s ties with the Arab world.

Ties with Bennett and Lapid

At the same time, senior officials from Arab states maintain contacts with other potential political leaders of Israel — Together party leader Naftali Bennett and opposition leader Yair Lapid.

The publication notes that Arab governments have long had relations with Bennett and Lapid, which largely predate their current political roles. Bennett established ties with several Arab leaders while serving as prime minister, while Lapid did so during his time as foreign minister and prime minister. One source described this approach as states maintaining contacts with anyone who could potentially become Israel’s prime minister.
