Artifacts from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra will be exhibited in Britain for the first time
Starting September 14, the V&A Museum in South Kensington, London, will host a free exhibition titled “Sacred Treasures from Kyiv,” which will run through September 17, 2027.
The exhibition will feature seven unique examples of Baroque sacred art from the collection of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, including an icon, an altar Gospel in a silver setting, a Eucharistic disc, and a silver-gilded chalice.
The exhibits will be displayed alongside the rare 18th-century silver-gilded Royal Doors, which were taken abroad during the Soviet period and are now part of the Gilbert Collection at the V&A.; The joint exhibition aims to restore the Ukrainian artistic context of these masterpieces of goldsmithing and to reexamine their interpretation, which for a long time was erroneously framed within the Russian imperial context. The project was implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, the reserve, the V&A Museum, the British Council, the Ukrainian Institute, and ICOM UK.

The 12th-century Church of the Savior at Berestove, part of the architectural complex of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, has reopened in the capital following restoration.
Four battlements of the stone wall fell from the upper part of the Khotyn Fortress, having been left unsupported after the first collapse of the wall on April 17. Elizaveta Buynovska, director of the reserve, reported that due to this incident, experts will have to urgently make changes to the design and cost estimate documentation.
