Australia will provide Ukraine with an additional $100 million for military equipment
On June 19, the Australian government announced that it would provide Ukraine with an additional $100 million in aid to purchase necessary military equipment. Officials in Canberra noted that the support is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid the ongoing war, which they describe as an unjustified and unprovoked invasion by Russia.
The Australian government announced that it would provide Ukraine with an additional $100 million in aid to purchase necessary military equipment, as “the country continues to fight against Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked invasion.”
It is noted that following the allocation of $50 million under the PURL initiative last December, Australia will make two further contributions of $50 million each over the next 12 months.
Thus, Australia’s total contribution to support Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war will exceed $1.8 billion, of which more than $1.6 billion will be military aid.
“What is happening in Ukraine matters to the Indo-Pacific region as well, which is why it is so important for Australia to remain consistent and continue to support Ukraine until it achieves peace on its own terms...Our ongoing contribution ensures that Ukraine receives the support necessary to make a tangible difference in its defense against the Russian Federation’s unjustified and unprovoked aggression,” said Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles.
In addition, Australia remains an active participant in the Coalition of the Willing, and the Australian Defense Force continues to train Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel as part of Operation Kudu.
This is stated on the website of the Australian Department of Defense.
Earlier, the EU and Australia signed a Partnership Agreement on Security and Defense.
