Orban's brother wanted to intercept another Ukrainian convoy carrying money

Aron, the younger brother of former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, attempted to organize the interception of yet another Ukrainian shipment carrying cash in Austria in late March 2026. This occurred after Ukrainian cash transporters from Oschadbank were detained in Hungary.

According to the Hungarian publication 444, Áron Orbán contacted businessman Csongor Laszlovári-Tomi, who lives in Graz, Austria, and asked if it would be possible to intercept the Ukrainian shipment. The businessman refused to participate and reported the correspondence to the Austrian intelligence services.

Journalists obtained correspondence between Áron Orbán and the Hungarian businessman Csongor Laszlovári-Toma, who lives in Austria, in which Orbán inquired whether Austrian law enforcement could detain the Ukrainian shipment that was due to arrive in the country.

According to the publication, he also offered to introduce the businessman to a person who had information about the exact time and location of the vehicle within Austria. Laszlovari-Toma rejected Aron Orban’s proposal, after which their communication ceased. He reported the correspondence to the Austrian intelligence services and the leadership of the Austrian People’s Party and showed the messages to attorney Lorant Horvath, who represents the interests of the Ukrainian cash-in-transit company.

The businessman also told reporters that he considers the Hungarian prime minister’s brother to be “a rather naive person whom certain interest groups use as a kind of walking business card.” Laszlovari-Tom claims that Aron Orban had previously approached him several times with various business proposals, particularly regarding the purchase of military equipment. His company operates in the arms trade, but he declined such proposals.

An earlier journalistic investigation revealed that the seizure of Ukrainian cash-in-transit vehicles and Oschadbank funds in March 2026 was a personal decision by then-Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and that there were no sufficient legal grounds for the operation. Orbán wanted to retaliate against Ukraine for disruptions in oil supplies via the “Druzhba” pipeline.

“Viktor Orbán personally directed the work of law enforcement agencies and intelligence services. He himself could decide whether to conduct raids or to drag out investigations. He must take responsibility!”—wrote the Hungarian prime minister,” stated Péter Magyar.

He also ordered an immediate internal investigation into the March incident involving the seizure of Ukrainian cash collectors and Oschadbank property.

This is reported in an investigation by the Hungarian publication 444.

Orbán stated that the EU could cease to exist in 25 years if the Union does not change.

As a reminder, searches were conducted at the headquarters of Orbán’s Fidesz party, and servers were seized.

Hungarian Prosecutor General Gábor Balint Nád has submitted his resignation. He took office under the previous administration, and the new Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, had demanded his dismissal.
