ChatGPT helped the FBI foil a murder plot in Florida
In Florida, a 25-year-old investment bank analyst was arrested after he described in detail to ChatGPT his intentions to kidnap, rape, and kill his ex-girlfriend.
According to reports, OpenAI’s security systems detected the threatening content and forwarded the information to law enforcement. The FBI enlisted local investigators, who interpreted the man’s messages as preparation for a serious crime.
According to the investigation, he also stalked his ex-girlfriend after they broke up, calling her from various numbers and contacting her via social media.
The man pleaded guilty. The court sentenced him to eight years of probation, prohibited him from contacting the woman or possessing firearms, and required him to wear an electronic ankle monitor for two years.
