Democrats have launched an impeachment effort against U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hagseth — Axios

Democratic members of Congress have introduced a resolution to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hagset, who is increasingly being referred to as the “Minister of War” within the Trump administration.

The document, a copy of which was obtained by Axios, contains six articles of impeachment alleging abuse of power and war crimes.

The main reason for the call for his resignation was the launch of military operations in Iran without proper congressional approval.

Democrats claim that Hegset authorized strikes that led to mass civilian casualties, specifically citing the bombing of a girls’ school in the city of Minab, where dozens of children were killed.

The resolution accuses the secretary of “unjustifiably endangering U.S. service members” due to plans for risky ground operations.

In addition, lawmakers highlight Hegset’s disregard for international law and the Geneva Conventions during the campaign in Iran.

“We will show no mercy or compassion toward our enemies”—the minister’s words have caused particular concern in legal circles.

Democrats view such rhetoric as direct evidence of a willingness to violate military protocols for political purposes.

A separate set of allegations concerns the so-called Signalgate scandal.

Pete Hegset is accused of using the secure messaging app Signal to discuss secret military operations in Yemen, which indicates “gross negligence in handling classified information.”

The document also notes that the “war minister” deliberately obstructed constitutional oversight by Congress.

He allegedly concealed facts about actual civilian casualties in Iran and Venezuela, and also attempted to pressure military personnel over their political views.

U.S. Calls for Hagseth’s Impeachment Over War with Iran

Earlier, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hagset stated during a briefing that U.S. forces had achieved significant successes as part of Operation "Epic Fury" against Iran and announced new waves of strikes.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hagset has shifted his approach to military operations, moving away from traditional rhetoric of defense and security and focusing on retaliation.
