Ghanaian MP Obeng says Interior Ministry examined boundary issues before Gomoa clashes
Ghanaian Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A Plus, said that the Ministry of the Interior and other state institutions had taken steps to examine issues concerning the boundary between Gomoa and Effutu before violent clashes in New Winneba and surrounding communities.
Three people were killed and 15 others were injured during the clashes, which are believed to have been caused by a land dispute between residents of Effutu and Gomoa, MyJoyOnline reports.
Boundary appeals
Obeng said that after being elected to parliament, he contacted the Lands Commission to request clarification of the boundary between Gomoa Central and Effutu in order to prevent possible conflicts over administrative and traditional borders. According to him, the commission provided a detailed report on the lands belonging to Gomoa and Effutu.

The MP also sent a request to the Ministry of Local Government to clarify the boundaries of the Gomoa Central district and received a response. He then forwarded the correspondence he had received to the Ministry of the Interior.
Ministry investigation
According to Obeng, there is an area deep within Gomoa in his constituency where votes cast in elections are counted toward the Effutu constituency. He also sought to determine the content of the legislative act that established the Gomoa Central district and the circumstances under which such an arrangement emerged.
The MP claims that the Ministry of the Interior conducted its own review and investigation. According to him, the ministry subsequently informed the Ghana Police Service of its findings and the need to make appropriate corrections.
