Ghanaian MP calls for dissolution of football association — MyJoyOnline

Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, a Ghanaian member of parliament from Effia, has called for the dissolution of the Ghana Football Association after the national team lost 2–4 to Gambia in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. MyJoyOnline reports.

Second defeat in qualifying

The match against Gambia took place on Tuesday, September 29. It was the Ghanaian national team's second consecutive setback in qualifying: in the opening round, Carlos Queiroz's team lost 0–2 to Côte d'Ivoire in Bouaké.

After two rounds, Ghana's national team is bottom of Group C. In the match against Gambia, the team initially took the lead, but the opponent equalized four minutes before half-time and later secured the victory.

Call to change the football system

Boamah-Nyarko placed responsibility for the decline in Ghanaian football on the current leadership. In his view, past achievements should not serve as an excuse for current results or as a way to avoid public criticism.

The MP stated that the football association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports should be dissolved, while the minister, in his opinion, should leave office. He also advocated a complete reset of the country's football system, including restoring sports development at district, regional and national levels and strengthening the role of the local league in training young players.

Ghana's national team will play its next 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Somalia in November.
