Lawmakers agree to restore peace after clashes in New Winneba — MyJoyOnline
According to MyJoyOnline, lawmakers Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Kwame Asare Obeng said they intend to work together to restore peace after violent clashes in New Winneba in the Central Region. Three people were killed and about 15 others were injured in the clashes on September 1.
Joint action by lawmakers
Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin described the recent attack in New Winneba as a cause for concern. In a joint Facebook statement, he said that lawmakers and district leaders had agreed to act together to restore peace and end tensions and attacks between Effutu and Gomoa.
Afenyo-Markin called Central Gomoa MP Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A-Plus, his “younger brother” in parliament. According to him, both lawmakers are interested in the development of their communities. Afenyo-Markin also urged residents to remain patient while leaders work to resolve the situation.

Investigation and security
The lawmakers and other stakeholders are due to meet with affected communities on Saturday to identify the issues and take steps to address them. According to the outlet, the clashes may have been caused by a land dispute between residents of Effutu and Gomoa.
Police detained six suspects in connection with the violence and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the attack. Additional security forces were also deployed to the affected communities to maintain order, restore trust and prevent further escalation.
