Dongkuk Steel holds educational trip to Britain for architecture students
South Korea’s Dongkuk Steel Group has completed a seven-day educational trip to the United Kingdom for seven students selected for the first cohort of the 2026 Songwon Future Architecture Talent Fellowship scholarship program. This was reported by The Korea Herald.
Architectural route through London
The program participants, whom the company calls Luxteeliers, were in the United Kingdom from August 4 to 10. The name combines Dongkuk’s Luxteel brand and the word “sommelier.” The students were selected in May after document reviews, interviews and an orientation program.
The itinerary focused on London’s architecture and covered five thematic areas: historical landmarks, Heatherwick Studio, and the northern, central and southwestern parts of the city. The group visited Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Bloomberg’s European headquarters, the Leadenhall Building skyscraper, Millennium Bridge and the Trellick Tower residential tower.

Further programs with Heatherwick Studio
Dongkuk Steel is also considering further programs with Heatherwick Studio, including workshops in its Makers Room. In this space, architectural models are made from wood, metal, plastic and other materials.
Heatherwick Studio senior associate Ricardo Sosa-Mejia said that the students asked meaningful questions and expressed impressive views on architecture and the world. Participants noted that direct exposure to the buildings broadened their understanding of architecture.
The company plans to publish video blogs about the trip and an e-book with the students’ stories on its official channel. The Songwon Future Architecture Talent Fellowship program is intended to familiarize architecture students with environmentally friendly finishing materials and support their professional development. Dongkuk Steel plans to hold its second cohort in the first half of next year.
