Second US aircraft carrier arrives in Thailand after mission against Iran — Anadolu Agency

The US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush has arrived in Phuket, Thailand, after a six-month deployment in the Middle East. It is the second US aircraft carrier to call at Thailand in just over a month, Anadolu Agency reports.

Anchorage off Phuket

According to Thailand's Government Public Relations Department, the ship is anchored approximately 1.78 nautical miles, or 3.3 kilometers, from Phuket Deep Sea Port. More than 5,100 US Navy personnel from the aircraft carrier and its escort ships will remain in Phuket until Friday.

Sailors have been allowed to travel within the province, but are prohibited from driving motorcycles or riding as passengers on them.

Deployment in the Middle East

The US Navy said that over the previous six months, the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group supported Operation Epic Fury, a US military operation against Iran, and ensured the enforcement of the US maritime blockade in the Middle East. The group then moved into the area of responsibility of the US 7th Fleet.

Phuket became the aircraft carrier's first port call after departing the United States in March. About a month earlier, the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier arrived at Laem Chabang port in Thailand after operating for nearly seven months in the US Central Command area of responsibility, including taking part in operations against Iran and enforcing the maritime blockade.
