Joshua Wong pleads guilty to conspiracy with foreign entities
Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong on Wednesday pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy with foreign entities. The 29-year-old activist faces a lengthy prison sentence, Deutsche Welle reports.
Arrests after an unofficial poll
In 2021, Wong was among dozens of activists arrested over their participation in an unofficial poll. It was conducted to select candidates for Hong Kong’s Legislative Council elections planned for 2020.

Protest activity
Wong gained widespread recognition in Hong Kong as a teenager in 2012, when he led protests against the introduction of national education in the city’s schools. Following large-scale protests, Beijing introduced a sweeping national security law in Hong Kong in 2020. According to DW, Wong’s protest activity was effectively outlawed as a result of this law.
