According to Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani, the main reason was the de facto blockade of tanker passage through the Strait of Hormuz due to security risks and insurance issues.
Currently, Iraq produces about 1.4 million barrels of oil per day.
Baghdad is attempting to partially offset the losses via the Kirkuk–Ceyhan pipeline to Turkey. Currently, about 200,000 barrels per day are exported through the Turkish port of Ceyhan, with plans to increase this volume to 500,000.
Iranian authorities have begun granting permission to select Chinese vessels to pass through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Additionally, the U.S. military struck the vessel Touska, which was attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz under the Iranian flag despite the blockade.
