Iran is preparing a new mechanism to monitor shipping in the Strait of Hormuz
Iran has announced plans to establish a new mechanism for regulating ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
This was reported by The Times of Israel.
Ibrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee, stated that Tehran will soon introduce a system to monitor the passage of ships along a designated route.
According to him, only commercial vessels and parties cooperating with Iran will benefit from the new mechanism.
Azizi also noted that a separate fee will be charged for specialized services within this system.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran does not trust the United States and is ready to negotiate with Washington only if the talks are genuinely serious.
Iranian authorities have begun granting permission to select Chinese vessels to pass through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has once again come to a near standstill.
