Extreme heat has caused widespread power outages in the U.S.

In the U.S., nearly one million homes were left without power amid extreme heat and severe weather. The states in the Midwest and Northeast have been hit hardest, where emergency services continue to restore power. Due to high temperatures across the country, a number of large-scale events have also had to be postponed.

The United States has faced widespread power outages. According to PowerOutage, 956,388 homes and facilities are currently without power. Most of the outages are concentrated in the Midwest and Northeast, where extreme heat and severe weather conditions are occurring simultaneously. The greatest strain is currently on the power grids, which are operating under extremely challenging conditions. Emergency crews continue to repair damaged power lines and substations to restore power to consumers as quickly as possible.

According to ABC News, the outages are occurring amid a severe heat wave that has swept across much of the country. Due to the high temperatures, authorities were forced to reschedule some public events to protect people from heat exhaustion. In particular, the opening of the Great American State Fair, as well as the start of the fan zone for the FIFA-sponsored soccer tournament on the National Mall, were postponed by two hours. Organizers attributed this to adverse weather conditions and medical recommendations.

Experts warn that extreme heat can not only make people feel unwell but also put additional strain on the power grid due to the widespread use of air conditioners. That is why the risk of new power outages is increasing in some regions. Meteorologists predict that high temperatures will persist in some states in the near future. Energy companies are urging residents to use electricity sparingly while emergency repair work is underway, according to ABC News.

A powerful heat wave has swept across the central and eastern states of the U.S., forcing authorities to cancel or postpone dozens of events commemorating the country’s 250th anniversary of independence.
