Yemeni officials say Houthis have seized Yemen’s western coast
According to Yemeni security officials, the Houthis have taken control of Yemen’s entire western coast, as well as the strategic Perim and Zuqar islands in the Red Sea. The National reports.
Control over the Bab el-Mandeb Strait
One of the publication’s sources in Yemen’s security forces said that the Houthis had seized the entire west of the country and Perim Island. This island is also known as Mayyun.
A second security official confirmed this information and said that the group had also established control over Zuqar Island. According to The National, control over the western coast and Perim gives the Houthis unprecedented control in the area of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key entrance to and exit from the Red Sea.

Advance to the south
After seizing the city of Mocha on Thursday, the Houthis, according to the publication, continued their advance south and took Dubab. The National calls Dubab the last major city on Yemen’s western coast.
The city directly faces the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and Perim Island. The publication cites two Yemeni security officials as the source of information about the change in control over the territories.
