Ghanaian minister says country is implementing Africa's largest road program
Ghana's Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, said that the country is currently implementing Africa's largest road infrastructure development program. As MyJoyOnline reports, major road projects in different parts of the country are being carried out under the government's Big Push program.
Minister's statement
Agbodza spoke on September 12 at a town hall meeting at the University for Business and Integrated Development Studies in Ghana's Upper West Region. According to him, the poor condition of roads was one of the key issues raised during the 2024 general elections.
The minister said that President John Dramani Mahama promised during the election campaign to significantly increase investment in road infrastructure if elected. Agbodza also claimed that when the government came to power, roads in almost all communities were in poor condition.

Big Push program
According to the minister, all projects under Big Push are already being implemented, and significant progress has been made in work across the country. He called the scale of investment in road infrastructure unprecedented for Ghana.
Agbodza said that Ghana is currently implementing Africa's largest road infrastructure project, which is being carried out simultaneously. He added that the government will continue to prioritize road infrastructure in view of community needs and the authorities' election commitments.
