US says 100 ships redirected amid blockade of Iranian ports

In connection with the blockade of Iranian ports, the US military said it had redirected 100 commercial vessels over the past 60 days. This concerns US actions aimed at limiting the movement of ships to and from Iran’s ports.

US Central Command statement

According to The Hindu International, US Central Command reported this in a post on the social media platform X. The command said that no vessel had passed through the blockade without permission from US forces.

US Central Command also said that US service members are focused on carrying out this mission. The publication does not provide details about the specific vessels or routes affected by the redirection.

Context in the Strait of Hormuz

As The Hindu International notes, Iran blocked the strategic Strait of Hormuz after the United States and Israel struck Tehran in late February. In response, the United States sought to prevent vessels from traveling to and from Iranian ports in order to deprive Tehran of revenue.
