Erdogan spoke of a crisis in global development and values and called for a stronger role for diplomacy
Erdogan spoke of a systemic crisis in a world where the balance of power is shifting and international institutions are weakening, and emphasized that diplomacy must become the primary platform for resolving global conflicts and shaping the future. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
According to Erdogan, the modern world is undergoing a profound transformation, where a crisis of values and development models is intensifying alongside shifts in the geopolitical balance.
He emphasized that the situation has already gone beyond ordinary political disputes and has turned into a systemic challenge for the entire international architecture. “Today, the world is experiencing not only a crisis of power but also a crisis of direction. We are facing a serious and dangerous turning point,” Erdogan stated.
The Turkish president emphasized that the traditional understanding of diplomacy is gradually changing, as it is no longer limited to negotiations regarding conflicts or state interests. “Diplomacy is no longer just a sphere where conflicts and interests are discussed. It is also a platform where the future of humanity is determined,” he noted.
Erdogan also pointed out that international institutions often prove incapable of responding to modern challenges, which, in his view, only deepens the global governance crisis. At the opening of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, the Turkish leader called on states to engage in more active dialogue, cooperation, and shared responsibility in shaping a more stable and just world order.
He emphasized that diplomacy must become the tool that will prevent further escalation of conflicts and ensure balance in the rapidly evolving new global reality.
Additionally, more than ten countries have declared their readiness to join the international mission in the Strait of Hormuz. This refers to an operation aimed at protecting shipping following tensions in the region.
Natural gas prices in Europe have plummeted: prices on the TTF hub fell below 40 euros per megawatt-hour following news of the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and indications of potential progress in negotiations between the parties.
