Russian banks have started disabling chat features in their apps
Russian banks Sber and T-Bank have removed the messaging feature between customers in their mobile apps.
This was reported by "Verstka."
In Sber, when attempting to send a message, users receive a notification that messaging support has been discontinued. At the same time, it is noted that comments on transfers remain available in the transaction history. The bank confirmed that it began phasing out the chat feature on April 27, and it will be completely disabled starting May 5.
At T-Bank, the “Chat” section has been renamed “Support,” and conversations between customers have been deleted.
The chat feature in the Sber app was launched back in 2018—it allowed users to create group chats, particularly for joint fundraising or informal communication.
Banks have not officially explained the reasons for discontinuing this feature.
In Russia, there is a trend toward reducing staff numbers in various sectors, including IT, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, retail, consulting, and other business services.
The Russian Ministry of Finance forecasts a sharp increase in regional budget deficits to $21 billion.
