"Ukraine's victory will pave the way for Belarus's freedom," says Tikhanovskaya in Kyiv

During her visit to Kyiv, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, the leader of Belarus’s democratic forces, stated that Ukraine’s resistance to Russian aggression defends not only its own independence but also the right of other nations to live free from imperial dictates. She expressed confidence that Ukraine’s victory would pave the way to freedom for the Belarusian people as well. 

The politician made this statement at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.

 

 

 

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on the international community and Ukrainian society to clearly distinguish the Belarusian people from the dictatorial regime. She acknowledged that Minsk has become an accomplice to the aggression, but emphasized that Alexander Lukashenko is a usurper who serves exclusively the interests of the Kremlin and does not represent the will of the citizens. According to her, the Belarusian people fully support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Belarusians stood on the Maidan and have been dying in the trenches for Ukrainian freedom since 2014. The opposition leader called on people not to succumb to provocations by Russia and Belarus, which seek to sow discord between societies, and thanked the Ukrainian side for organizing this official visit.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, the leader of the Belarusian opposition in exile, arrived in the Ukrainian capital for a series of important meetings with the country’s top leadership. 

Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya visited the exclusion zone, touring the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the abandoned city of Pripyat.
