Estonia has responded to Russia's accusations of discrimination against Russians
Estonian authorities have stated that Russia’s intention to file complaints with the International Court of Justice against the Baltic states over alleged discrimination against ethnic Russians is part of a disinformation campaign.
The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made this statement in a comment to Suspilne.
As noted by the ministry, these statements are intended to divert attention from Russia’s own actions, particularly its attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine.
The Estonian side emphasized that Moscow uses such narratives as a tool for propaganda and political pressure.
The Ministry also noted that Estonia enjoys a high standing in the field of international law and consistently ranks among the top countries in terms of democracy, the rule of law, press freedom, and digital governance.
Furthermore, the Estonian Foreign Ministry emphasized that attempts to portray the Baltic states as unreliable partners are part of a broader information strategy aimed at undermining support for Ukraine and discrediting the democratic institutions of the EU and NATO.
Estonia, along with Lithuania and Latvia, considers Russia’s accusations to be fabricated and based on distorted narratives and systematic disinformation, which may also be directed against other European Union countries.
Estonia has held Russia responsible for the arrival of Ukrainian drones.
A Romanian fighter jet participating in a NATO air patrol mission shot down a stray attack drone over Estonian territory.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, commenting on the incident involving the downing of the drone over the country’s territory, stated that this is a consequence of Russia’s war and provocations. He also emphasized that Ukraine has every right to strike Russian military targets.
