MEP Glucksmann called on European countries to protect Ukraine's airspace
France and other European countries must directly participate in the defense of Ukraine’s airspace. MEP Glucksmann made this appeal.
The politician recalled that the French military had intercepted Iranian attack drones targeting the United Arab Emirates.
“How many more official statements calling on Putin to stop the escalation will there be? We are passively watching as Ukrainian cities, infrastructure, and trains are bombed. What we did to protect the skies over Abu Dhabi and the Emirates, we must do for the skies over Kyiv and Lviv. We shot down Shahed drones that Iran launched at the Emirates, and no one considered that France had entered a war against Iran because of this,” emphasized the co-founder of the center-left party Place publique.
Glucksmann questioned the arguments used in Europe to explain the reluctance to directly participate in intercepting Russian missiles and drones over Ukraine.
“Why can’t we do for Ukraine what we did for the UAE? Do we really believe that Ukraine is of less strategic importance to Europe than the United Arab Emirates? Is Abu Dhabi really more important to us here in Strasbourg than Kyiv or Lviv? We must put an end to this hypocrisy. If we want to help Ukraine, let’s protect the Ukrainian sky,” Glucksmann stated.
According to international media reports, in March, French Rafale fighter jets intercepted Iranian drones heading toward the UAE. Paris emphasized that this was a defensive operation in support of its partners, not France’s entry into the war against Iran.
