A cloth bearing the names of more than 20,000 children from Gaza unveiled in the US
In New York, United States, a 100-metre memorial cloth bearing the handwritten names of more than 20,000 Palestinian children killed in the Gaza Strip was unveiled at the Church Center for the United Nations. The event was organized by an interfaith coalition during the opening of the UN General Assembly.
A memorial with thousands of names
The organizers named the project Gaza Children's Shroud. According to them, the memorial is intended to restore individuality to every child whose name is listed on the cloth. They also called for an end to Israeli military operations and for accountability for war crimes.
As Anadolu Agency reports, Doctors Against Genocide, Priests Against Genocide USA, Justice for All and other partner organizations worked on the memorial. The Quran was read during the ceremony, and an interfaith gathering was also held.

Exhibition route
The initiative was inspired by a memorial created in Rome by the organization Pastors Against Genocide. The report states that the idea arose from a practice in which parents in Gaza wrote their children's names directly on their bodies so they could be identified if their homes were bombed.
The exhibition was first shown at Philadelphia City Hall on September 1. It is planned to be presented in Washington in October and later in a new city every month as part of a year-long international campaign. According to UN reports, since October 2023, more than 20,000 children have been killed and another 44,000 injured in Gaza as a result of Israeli military attacks.
