European Commission transfers €157 million to Moldova for reforms — European Commission

In Brussels, the European Commission announced that during the 10th meeting of the EU–Moldova Association Council, it transferred an additional €157 million to Moldova under the country’s Growth Plan. This is the third payment under the programme, the European Commission reported.

Implementation of 18 reforms

The payment was preceded by a positive assessment by the European Commission of Moldova’s implementation of 18 reforms linked to the Growth Plan. They cover all seven areas of the programme: private sector development, economic resilience, economic governance, social cohesion and the labour market, energy, the green transition, and good governance.

Following this tranche, the total amount of funds available to Moldova under the Plan reached €661 million. The European Commission noted that the instrument is intended to support economic growth and job creation by accelerating reforms and improving the country’s access to the EU single market, bringing Moldova closer to membership in the European Union.

Support package until 2027

In October 2024, the European Commission proposed a €1.9 billion Growth Plan for Moldova. It is based on the Reform and Growth Facility, designed for 2025–2027. The European Commission calls it the EU’s largest financial support package for Moldova.

Between 2021 and 2025, the EU allocated more than €1.2 billion in grants to Moldova. The support included direct budget support for energy security and the transition to clean energy, assistance to 1.2 million households amid rising electricity bills, as well as support for reforms in the justice sector to strengthen independence and improve efficiency.
