EU condemns Zelensky’s threats against Hungarian Prime Minister Orban
The European Union has deemed unacceptable the threats made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky towards Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban, said European Commission spokesperson Olaf Gill at a briefing. Such language is intolerable, as threats against EU member states cannot be allowed.
In response to Zelensky’s remarks, Hungary detained seven employees of the Ukrainian state bank Oschadbank and two armoured cash-in-transit vehicles filled with money and gold. According to the bank, the vehicles carried around $40 million, €35 million and 9 kilograms of gold. The cash and gold were being transported from Austria to Ukraine. The detained Ukrainians have since been deported.
This incident increases tensions between Kyiv and Budapest and requires resolution to prevent further escalation.
