FCA probes PayPal, Visa and Mastercard over competition
The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has opened an antitrust investigation into PayPal, Visa and Mastercard.
Reuters reports.
The regulator is examining potential anti-competitive agreements related to the funding and use of PayPal’s digital wallet. Visa and Mastercard are also being reviewed for possible abuse of dominant market positions in the payments sector.
The FCA stressed the investigation is at an early stage and no conclusions have been reached. The probe became public after PayPal disclosed relevant information in filings with the U.S. SEC. All three companies said they are cooperating with the regulator.
