Financial journalist Alan Kohler to end ABC career at the end of the year — ABC News Australia
In Australia, financial journalist and television presenter Alan Kohler will retire at the end of 2026 after 31 years at public broadcaster ABC, ABC News Australia reports. The 74-year-old Kohler said he made the decision because he wants to spend more time with his family, including his six grandchildren.
Work at ABC
Kohler joined ABC in 1995 as the business and economics correspondent for the 7.30 Report. He later became the presenter of Inside Business.
For the past 24 years, Kohler has been the chief financial news presenter on the 7pm News. He explained complex financial market issues to audiences and often began his segments with the words: “Now, here's an interesting graph”.
ABC managing director Hugh Marks said Kohler had made an exceptional contribution to the broadcaster and helped Australians understand complex topics through his clear and accessible style. According to Marks, the end of this stage of the journalist's career does not mean the end of his contribution.
