Finland has backed Ukraine's right to strike Russian oil refineries — Yle

Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen has officially stated that Helsinki is not imposing any restrictions on Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil sector facilities.

Despite incidents of Ukrainian drones falling on Finnish territory, the country continues to support Kyiv’s right to self-defense.

In a comment to the national broadcaster Yle, the head of the diplomatic service emphasized the unconditional legitimacy of the Ukrainian forces’ actions against the aggressor.

“Ukraine is allowed to defend itself. We are not imposing any requirements on Ukraine regarding which targets it seeks to strike in Russia,” Elina Valtonen emphasized.

Finland’s position remains unchanged, despite technical incidents arising from the long-range flights of Ukrainian UAVs.

Helsinki views these events as a side effect of the war, not as a reason to pressure the Ukrainian military leadership.

At the same time, the Finnish government is taking active measures to ensure the safety of its own citizens and critical infrastructure.

Elina Valtonen noted that “Finns should not be put in danger” due to the hostilities unfolding on the territory of a neighboring state.

That is why Finland has begun the accelerated development and implementation of a modern anti-drone defense system.

According to the minister’s preliminary estimates, a fully operational anti-drone shield could be put into service within the next few months.

As a reminder, Ukrainians in Finland will be able to receive a state pension.

As a reminder, Finland has deported a record number of Russians.

Finland is also making it harder to obtain a permanent residence permit.
