Malian soldiers and fighters from Russia’s “African Corps” have been accused of killing four civilians in northern Mali. According to local residents and human rights activists, the body of one of the victims was dismembered and arranged in the shape of a swastika.

This was reported by RFI.

According to the publication, the incident occurred on June 23 near the villages of Zarkho and Abakoira following a joint patrol by the Malian army and Russian mercenaries. After they left, local residents discovered two bodies, one of which had been mutilated.

Two more people, according to RFI sources, were killed when a drone struck a motorcycle near Abakoira.

The human rights organization CD-DPA stated that all four of the deceased were civilians and were not involved in combat operations. The organization called the incident a “horrific atrocity” and accused the military of attempting to intimidate the local population.

The Malian authorities and representatives of the “African Corps” have not yet commented on the allegations. At the same time, RFI notes that the Russia-linked “Wagner” group, which was replaced in Mali by the “African Corps,” has previously been associated with the use of Nazi symbols.

Units of the so-called African Corps of the Russian Ministry of Defense have left the strategically important city of Kidal in Mali. The withdrawal took place amid an unprecedented attack by Tuareg rebels and Islamists on several regions of the country simultaneously.

Representatives of the Tuareg rebels claim that government forces and their allies left Kidal in accordance with a prior agreement. At the same time, there is no consensus among Russian Z-channels and military bloggers regarding the reasons for the withdrawal.
