France 24 analyzed the role of Giorgia Meloni among Europe's far-right movements

In a July 24 report, France 24 examined Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s political role among Europe’s far-right forces, as well as her relationship with Donald Trump.

Meloni became the first woman to serve as Italy’s prime minister in 2022. According to France 24, she has demonstrated ideological affinity with Trump and positioned herself as a bridge between the MAGA movement in the U.S. and Europe’s far-right forces.

The TV channel notes that Meloni was the only European leader invited to Trump’s second inauguration in 2025. The report also examines how their relationship has evolved since then and the role of the Italian prime minister in the European Union.

France 24 reports that Meloni has sought to strengthen Italy’s influence in Brussels. At the same time, her critics argue that she has softened some of her hard-line positions in order to maintain her political influence. The report features an interview with Gianfranco Fini, founder of the post-fascist “National Alliance”—the organization where Meloni began her political career more than two decades ago. Mark Lazar, a historian and expert on Italian politics, in assessing her first three years in office, points to what he calls authoritarian tendencies in her approach to governance.
