The Russian FSB reports that a remote-controlled electric scooter in Moscow has been booby-trapped

The Russian FSB reports that a remote-controlled electric scooter in Moscow has been booby-trapped

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation announced that it had foiled an assassination attempt on a high-ranking official of one of Moscow’s key agencies.

According to Russian intelligence, the perpetrators planned to use a remotely detonated electric scooter parked near one of the Russian capital’s business centers to kill the official.

At this time, official sources have not disclosed the name of the potential victim or the exact location of the vehicle.

The FSB’s Public Relations Center states that the homemade explosive device was disguised as a portable battery (power bank) and placed in the scooter’s trunk.

The explosive consisted of 1.5 kilograms of plastic explosive and was packed with shrapnel—bolts and nuts.

The detonation system was technically complex: it was controlled “via a ‘smart home’ system’s Wi-Fi relay and a 4G modem” for remote detonation.

As is typical for the Russian information landscape, the special services of the aggressor state accused the Security Service of Ukraine of planning the operation.

The FSB claims that “the attack was planned by the Security Service of Ukraine,” and the explosion was to be triggered remotely as the vehicle approached the booby-trapped site.

However, as is customary, the Russian side provided no substantial evidence of Ukrainian agencies’ involvement in this incident.

Russian security forces also drew parallels with another successful assassination attempt that took place in late 2024. At that time, a similar explosion killed Igor Kirilov, the head of the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense Forces.

In that case, the explosive device was planted under an electric scooter parked directly outside the home of a high-ranking military official, indicating the use of identical tactics.

As a reminder, in Crimea, the FSB detained a man for supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strikes on fuel infrastructure.

Since the beginning of the year, Russian occupation forces have significantly increased their use of the “Bastion” coastal missile system to strike mainland Ukraine.

As a reminder, on the night of March 24, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck a Russian “Bastion” coastal missile system launcher.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces also struck Russian military facilities.
