UN General Assembly in New York: about 1,000 bilateral meetings — The National
In New York, United States, during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly, about 1,000 requests have already been submitted for bilateral meetings between member states. Streets near the UN headquarters in Midtown have been closed, and access to the area has been restricted to pass holders.
As The National reports, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is due to open the debate on Tuesday. He is to be followed by US President Donald Trump with a speech.

UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that the large number of meeting requests gives heads of state and government an opportunity to communicate in a non-public format. According to him, the UN provides delegations with booths that can usually be booked for half an hour for talks.

Dujarric noted that this year he is taking part in the 26th session of the UN General Assembly. He compared the intensity of work during the week to being on a large wave that must be endured until it ends.

For Middle Eastern countries, this week will be an opportunity for intensive talks on conflicts in the region, including the war with Iran, which, according to the publication, has significantly affected the global economy.
According to Dujarric, UN Secretary-General António Guterres will focus on bringing member states back to the organization’s ideals and responding to risks related to artificial intelligence, climate change, and inequality.
