Gilgit-Baltistan calls for stronger safety measures on Baltistan Highway in Pakistan — Dawn

Authorities in Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan have called on the National Highway Authority and the Frontier Works Organisation to urgently strengthen safety measures on the Baltistan Highway. As Dawn reports, the region's chief minister, Amjad Hussain, said that road incidents on this route pose a threat to people's lives.

Danger due to landslides

Safety issues were discussed at a meeting dedicated to preventing road accidents and incidents caused by landslides. Hussain stressed the importance of the road and noted that travellers and tourists using it face difficulties due to frequent landslides.

The Baltistan Road was officially renamed the Baltistan Highway in April 2023. According to the chief minister, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed that safe travel be ensured along this important highway.
