Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan urges US to influence Israel — Anadolu Agency
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, speaking in New York, United States, urged the United States to use its influence to encourage Israel to end policies that, he said, undermine regional and global peace and stability. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.
Statement at a panel in New York
Fidan spoke at the panel “Turkish-American Relations on the Eve of the Centennial,” organized in New York by Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications. He said that Türkiye and the United States are interested in the existence of sovereign and stable states capable of ensuring security and prosperity in the region, particularly in Syria and Iraq.
The Turkish foreign minister also advocated strengthening the role of countries in the region in security matters, emphasizing that local solutions have a better chance of being lasting.
Challenges for the region
Among the three key challenges, Fidan named the war with Iran, the risk of the conflict in Yemen spreading to neighboring countries, and what he considers Israel’s destabilizing policy in the region. According to him, these threats reinforce one another and hinder diplomacy, and therefore require responsibility from regional states and close cooperation with the United States.

Fidan called Gaza the central test for efforts to create regional security. He also said that a lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue is necessary for stability in the Middle East and beyond, adding that Türkiye supports the efforts of US President Donald Trump to end the crisis in Gaza.
The minister also said that the alliance in Mecca between Türkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia creates an institutional framework for regional responsibility and strengthens cooperation in peace and security.
Türkiye-US relations
In Fidan’s assessment, Turkish-American relations have a time-tested value and have evolved into a partnership and alliance that affect more than just the two countries. He noted that Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Donald Trump play a central role in the current dynamics of bilateral contacts, and that the task of the sides is to turn this into concrete results and institutionalize cooperation.
