Ruling NDC Chairman Asiedu Nketiah calls for government scrutiny — MyJoyOnline
In Sunyani, Ghana, National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said the government must be prepared for constant scrutiny of its policies, spending and delivery on development promises. He urged journalists to demand answers from ministers, examine public expenditure and track the fulfillment of commitments to citizens, MyJoyOnline reports.
“This government should expect scrutiny. Ministers must answer legitimate questions. Public expenditure must be examined. The promises we made to the people of Ghana should be matched against what we are delivering,” Nketiah said at the fourth awards ceremony of the Bono regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association.
Scrutiny of projects in the Bono Region
Nketiah separately urged journalists in the Bono Region to closely monitor public projects and keep detailed records of government investments. According to him, projects receiving billions of Ghanaian cedis are being implemented in the region.
The politician advised media representatives to establish the cost of major projects, information about contractors, deadlines and terms of work, and later verify whether they were completed and whether citizens received proper value for the money spent. He added that in five years, the region’s media archives should make it possible to reconstruct the fate of key current development commitments.

Journalists’ working conditions
Asiedu Nketiah also urged politicians to provide journalists with the information needed for accurate coverage and not to view difficult questions as hostility. In his view, media organizations need resources to hire and retain qualified staff, conduct investigations and support strong regional newsrooms.
The ceremony’s guest speaker, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, urged journalists to adhere to ethics, integrity and accuracy. He stressed the need to verify facts and sources before publication, avoid sensationalism, and be guided by the public interest, fairness and balance.
The award for best journalist covering climate change and the green transition went to Joy News Bono Region correspondent Precious Semevoh. The main regional “Journalist of the Year 2025” award was won by Lawrence Yeboah Gyan of Wisdom FM for work in child rights protection, health and healthcare.
