Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council chief vows to restore state institutions
Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi said the authorities would continue efforts to restore state institutions and extend government sovereignty across the entire country. The statement came amid rapid changes on the front line in the war between government forces and the Houthi group.
Statement by the council chairman
Al-Alimi discussed the latest situation at the front, the security and humanitarian situation, and the work of state services during telephone calls with members of the Presidential Leadership Council, Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani, the commander of the Fourth Military Region, governors and military commanders.
According to him, temporary changes on a particular section of the front do not determine the course of major national battles. He stressed that developments on the battlefield would not weaken the ability of the Yemeni people and armed forces to restore state institutions.
Al-Alimi also said that the course of the confrontation depends on strength of will, unity of objectives and decision-making, as well as the ability to address challenges, strengthen cohesion and regain the initiative. He linked the strength of the state to the integration of military, security, political, economic and service sectors.

Reports by the sides on hostilities
As Anadolu Agency reports, the Houthis said they had taken control of several areas in the Al Hudaydah and Taiz provinces on the western coast, as well as Red Sea islands, including Perim Island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Government forces, for their part, reported advances in Al Jawf province near the border with Saudi Arabia and said they were approaching its administrative center, Al Hazm. They also reported airstrikes on Houthi targets in Mokha and adjacent areas, as well as in the Taiz, Lahij and Al Dali provinces. According to government forces, military equipment and weapons were destroyed in the strikes, while a large-scale Houthi attack near Marib was repelled.
Fighting between Yemen’s government forces and the Houthis intensified in early July after several years of relative calm. The conflict in the country has continued since September 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces.
