Guterres: World cannot allow a ‘race to the bottom’ in AI safety

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said in Hamilton, Canada, that the world cannot allow a “race to the bottom” in the field of artificial intelligence safety. At a press conference ahead of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, he stressed the need for safeguards for the development of this technology.

Call for AI rules

According to Guterres, artificial intelligence has significant potential to accelerate sustainable development, improve education, strengthen healthcare systems and enhance climate resilience. At the same time, a growing number of people developing such technologies warn that their development is outpacing the understanding of the risks associated with them.
